Jump to the [world map](https://www.turfnft.com/) and zoom in to the area of your interest, or enter the city name in the search box.  Zoom close enough to see the square tiles projected on the map which are about 1x1 km in size.

These tiles either display a blue dot, a yellow star (for densely populated and popular areas) or an artist impression, which indicates it is minted already. The blue dot stands for a price of 50 ADA, a yellow star is 500 ADA, but these may include a free print with only shipping costs added. Prices may slip according to the exchange price of ADA but you can also choose USD or EUR to get a fiat price indication.

As a first step, connect your ADA wallet (Nami, Eternl, Lace, Yoroi, GeroWallet).

Lesson 1   Find your own TURF

You can select your own neighbourhood TURF, or expand that area up to 5x5 tiles if you really want to leave your footprint in a big way. But it can also be your favourite holiday spot, your alma mater, your birthplace or any other area that you consider valuable. Or even places that you think will become valuable in the future because of current developments. With close to 1800 tiles sold (Jan 2024), it is still early days for this project and chances are you can still pick up your favourite neighbourhood.

Once you have selected a tile, press the plus button. This will start generating the artwork (it will take a few secodns) so you can have a preview and check if it makes an attractive image. You can be unlucky and your house is just at the bottom corner and the rest of the image is just a lake, making it quite an uninteresting picture. But for most people on this planet, living in urban surroundings, they will immediately recognize the layout of their surroundings.
You can still shuffle the colours at this stage to fine tune the image to your liking.

Beware that once you press the plus button, the tile is reserved for you for a maximum of 10 minutes after which the reservation is cancelled and someone else may pick it up. Or you have to select it again and start a new reservation timeslot.

As this is a European-based venture, you will have to fill out simple KYC details which is used for compliance purposes only and will never be sold.

Lesson 2   Buy your own TURF

Before you finalize your purchase, you have the option to set the checkmark to get a high quality print (40x60 cm  or  16x24 inch, 200 g paper) send to your home address. Prices in ADA are ca. 40 EUR or 44 USD in fiat, shipping included (prices may vary).

Everyone is allowed to have a high quality print of every tile in the world, but 10% of the print price will go to the NFT owner if it was already minted.

Lesson 3  Just the JPG-NFT or a print as well?

- an NFT on the Cardano blockchain to verify ownership and authenticity of your TURF, but you are free to move it to another blockchain.
- a 3D animated GIF of your TURF 
- the HTML code to insert it in your website
- a high resolution JPG for download, which you can display anywhere you want
- when applicable, a high quality print (free with the star-valued TURFs or when you order a 3x3 combination of adjacent TURFs

You can also select a group of 5x5 tiles to own a larger section of the map and have them printed as one image.

Lesson 4   What you will get

When you want to add a valuable to an event goodie-bag without producing litter (over 80% of goodie bags contents are left in hotel rooms), or look for novel ways to generate sponsore income, you can decide to create a dedicated TURF which can be multiplied by the event owner. The TURF can include the event name & logo, a map of the conference location, QR codes, individual attendee names etc. This takes some time to prepare so make sure you contact the TURF team at least 6 weeks in advance. A prime example was the 2022 Cardano Summit where 20,000 attendees were given a TURF-NFT.

Lesson 5   Event TURFs

For the adventurous types (and who isn’t in the blockchain space) you can opt to buy a random dropped tile from a city of your choice. The price is determined by the number of TURFs already sold for that city.

Lesson 6  Random drop TURFs

Your TURF is yours, unless you are willing to sell it. Depending on the interest for a particular hotspot, the trading price can become quite substantiol. For example, 3x3 tiles covering the centre of Venice, Italy are for sale for 18 million ADA. I would say, keep dreaming, but more realistic prices can be found for TURFs from all over the world at the[JPGstore](https://www.jpg.store/collection/turf-cartographicnfts?sortBy=price-high-to-low).  You can buy it directly from the owner or set a bid at a lower price which may eventually trigger the sale. 

Lesson 7 Trading your TURF

Chapter 1

By dividing the world into tiny squares, TURF allows you to own a cartographic artist impression of your own neighbourhood or your favourite location as a unique NFT. Each square can only be sold once and your NFT proves your ownership. 

You will get an interactive 3D art experience, a high resolution download file which you can freely use to print on your own wall poster, T-shirt, coffee mug, bumper sticker or anywhere you like. Plus the NFT token to prove your ownership. 

When others become interested in your TURF, they may place a bid and try to buy it from you via the jpg.store.
