## **SubHandle Settings**

In this lesson, you will learn the differences between NFT and Virtual SubHandles as well as how to set your SubHandle settings.

There are 2 types of SubHandles, **NFT** and **Virtual**. Both of them look the same but they have different use-cases.

1. **NFT SubHandles** - They work the same way a regular Handle works today. An NFT that resolves to an address wherever the NFT resides it.

2. **Virtual SubHandles** - An asset, sitting inside a Smart Contract that resolves to an address. It has a 1-year expiration and can be revoked by the root Handle owner.

If you own the **$acme** Handle for example, a SubHandle would look like this: **$john@acme** or **$mary@acme**. SubHandles can be used for team members, for organizing your wallets or even to token-gate access to content. So if you create video content on Cardano, you could set it up so that only SubHandle owners of your Handle can access that content. It just makes transacting on Cardano a lot easier!

Every Handle has the ability to mint and sell SubHandles, the first step is to set your SubHandle settings to enable this function.

Navigate to [handle.me](https://handle.me) > Connect your wallet > Choose your Handle and click on SubHandles:

Read the terms and click **I Agree** to continue:

You are now inside your SubHandle Settings page. Here is where you will determine 3 items, Minting Fee Address, Settings and Pricing Tiers.

**Minting Fee Address**: You need to set an address to receive ADA for the SubHandles you will sell.

**Settings**: You can choose to enable Public minting of SubHandles, which will allow anyone to mint NFT, Virtual SubHandles or both. If you'd like to sell SubHandles to the public, click on OAuth and Enable under NFT or Virtual. You will be redirected to ADA Handle's OAuth page, click on **Authorize** and sign the **Message Signing** transaction.

Now that OAuth has been enabled, you have the option to do it for both NFT and Virtual. You can also **toggle* personalization, this will disable the ability for your SubHandle holders to personalize their SubHandle. Very soon, you will be able to set a custom background, so that all SubHandles are minted with your custom background, such as your logo, or project background.

**Pricing Tiers**: ADA Handle sells NFT SubHandles to you for **5 ADA** and Virtual SubHandles for **3 ADA**. Every Handle comes with 3 FREE Virtual SubHandles and you can sell SubHandles for any price you'd like. There is a maximum of 5 pricing tiers allowed based on character length. So if you sell 1-character NFT SubHandles for 100 ADA, you will make 95 ADA in profit.

Once you are done with SubHandle settings, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on **Enable SubHandle Minting**. Everytime you make changes to your SubHandle settings, you will need to save settings. Upon doing this for the first time, a SubHandle settings token will be minted. You will only pay blockchain fees for this:

**SubHandle Minting and Manage**

This lesson will demonstrate how to Privately and Publicly mint SubHandles!

Now that you have set your SubHandle settings let's move on to the fun part, actually minting SubHandles. There are 2 ways to mint SubHandles, **Private** and **Public** mints.

**Private** mints are done from the Minting dashboard inside your SubHandle page.

**Public** mints are done from the Handle Portal Page (which you learned on previous lessons). An example is the Handle $gm which has NFT SubHandle public mints enabled and you can do it from here https://handle.me/gm

Let's start with **Private** mints.

On the left side of your SubHandle page, click on **Mint**:

As you can see you have 2 tabs: NFT and VIRTUAL. By default, NFT is selected first. Use the search bar and type a SubHandle you would like to mint, it can be either NFT or Virtual:

As you can see, by doing private mints, you only get charged the default costs of SubHandles, 5 ADA for NFT SubHandles and 2 ADA for Virtual SubHandles and remember you get 3 FREE Virtual SubHandles.

Click on Mint NFT SubHandle or Virtual SubHandle and sign the transaction or transactions if you're doing multiple. You don't have to wait for the SubHandle to be minted, to initiate other SubHandle mints. As long as you sign the transactions, the SubHandles will be minted.

Once you are done minting, well, at least for now 😊, click on **Manage**:

The Manage page will show you all the NFT and Virtual Handles that have been minted.

The Virtual tab inside the Manage page, will also tell you which Handles have been Publicly or Privately minted. If a Virtual SubHandle was *privately* minted (you as the root Handle owner minted them), you will be able to revoke it at anytime and change the address to which the virtual SubHandle resolves to and extend the expiration date for another year.

## **Adding SubHandle Widget to Portal Page**

How to add the SubHandle Widget to your Handle Portal page to allow anyone to mint SubHandles from your Handle!

Now that you have learned how to set your SubHandle settings, how to privately mint SubHandles and how to Manage your SubHandles, I will demonstrate how to add the SubHandle Widget to your Portal Page, essentially allowing anyone to mint a SubHandle from your Handle.

If you are already inside your SubHandle page, on the top left, click on **Personalization**:

Then, click on **Portal**:

As you learned in previous lessons, you have a bunch of different widgets you can choose from, you can move the widgets around as well as resize them. For this lesson, we will only add the **SubHandles** widget, so click on it:

As soon as you click on it, the SubHandle widget will be added to the bottom of your screen, so scroll down if needed. As practice, with your mouse or finger, press, hold and move the SubHandle widget to the top:
